About the Owner, Christina Villagrana CPDT-KA

It all started when I brought home my first stray dog and continues to this day!  I have been around animals and have been caring for them my entire life. As a child I trained my own dogs in 4-H and competed in obedience trials at county fairs until the age of 15. During that time I also raised rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens showing  them at the fair as well.  My first “official” job at the age of 15 was as an assistant dog groomer and bather.  Soon after I began working with a local veterinarian  as a groomer and kennel attendant. I also assisted the vet by taking blood,  x-rays and administering  vaccinations.  During the same time I also was a volunteer at the local Humane Society. As a volunteer at the Humane Society, I bathed dogs and cats,  walked the dogs and took home the orphan kittens to bottle feed. I also transported  dogs on a weekly basis to a TV studio where the animals were featured for adoption.

When my children were old enough to join 4-H I became a 4-H leader and taught dog obedience and dog care to them and other children. I also was a rabbit leader and taught kids rabbit care and how to show their rabbits.

In 1991 I got my first American Bulldog and started showing and I training her in the sport of Schutzhund.  I eventually got 4 more American Bulldogs that I also trained in Schutzhund and showed them in confirmation. I became the secretary for the Working American Bulldog Association in 1997 and I was also the VP for The Southern California American Bulldog Club.  I also used to handle dogs for other people in the ring and I trained to become a conformation judge for the American Bulldog breed.

I currently own four dogs of my own, a Pit Mix named Besito that is a foster that I kept, a little 6 lb Miniature Pinscher named Cleo that I was fostering but decided to keep as well and a little Chihuahua mix named Brandi that was another foster failure.  I also have a cute little Scottish Terrier named Angus. Over the years I have owned and raised many types of animals. Besides dogs and cats, I have raised rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, chickens, ducks and geese and also many types of reptiles.

I’m a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and member of The Association of Professional Dog Trainers.  I work as a dog trainer for a wonderful dog training facility in Canoga Park called J9’s K9s. I was a volunteer at the Agoura Animal Shelter for over 3 years and I am currently a volunteer at Best Friends LA. I also foster dogs for other shelters and rescue organizations in the area. Over the years I have fostered many dogs and cats, including bottle fed babies, sick or injured animals and mama’s with babies.

I work with other local trainers in the area and continuously build on my experience by attending industry seminars and training on a regular basis.
